 Room for Failure set

This set was commissioned by Mitchell Janiak for “Room for Failure” which was chosen to be performed at the New Voices 2015 Festival in Toronto.

This set consisted of multiple pieces. Wooden crates, a magnetic clock and a chalk board.

The wooden crates are a similar design to the wooden crates I created for an earlier show. Also built out of pine. 3 crates were constructed for this show.

The magnetic clock was custom built to be able to show the time and allow the actors/actress’ to move the hands around and for them to stay in place. The face of the clock was made out of metal with the borders and clock hands were made out of MDF wood. Magnets were placed behind the clock hands to allow them to stick to the board but allow them to move around when needed.

The chalk board was also custom built. The main piece was a solid piece of MDF wood with primer and chalk board paint. The frame for the chalk board was made out of 2x4’s and was built to be transportable and easy to assemble.

This also included fixing a support leg for a door display prop while I was assembling the rest of the set.

Overall, this was a super fun project to work on with a fantastic guy. I wish this show got put on the big screen.
