Rocket League Arena - Xbox Together Event

We were asked to build a real-life Rocket League arena with RC cars for a Xbox gaming event held in Toronto. It was imagined as a 2-player interactive game for children and adults.

This project started with acquiring 2 identical RC trucks. We chose these because they were easy to control, strong enough to push a 3D printed ball around and have the batteries swapped out after a modification. The original trucks were stripped of their normal branding and replaced with vinyl Xbox branding. The rechargeable batteries were replaced with AA batteries and the truck bed was modified to hold the new battery pack.

The arena itself was going to be big! Big enough to allow comfortable movement for the ball and trucks to play in. Being this big, it would not fit in a van for transportation, so it needed to be able to separate into different pieces. The main construction was 2x2, 2x4 and thin sanded plywood. The paints were exterior paints sprayed through a spray gun for a smooth, even finish.

Overall, this was a fun project because we got to set it up and see it used in action! With a little practice, you could be on your way to scoring some sweet goals!
