pUBG Supply Crate

Every PUBG booth needs a life size supply crate! I was asked by the Xbox Canada team to create a life size replica of the supply crate from Player Unknown's Battle Grounds (PUBG). The challenge of this project was to create a large and sturdy piece that will be lightweight and easily transportable while being able to withstand damages. The final goal was to combine all those elements into a realistic looking piece that came straight from the game, add battle wear that simulates that it came out of an air plane, as well as being a functional piece that has storage for the other assets for the event. It's not just a pretty box!

I started by building a rough shape out of professional construction grade, roofing insulation board. This has a hard fiberglass "shell" that keeps it rigid while being lightweight. I glued all of the pieces together using construction grade adhesives and silicone's. Different thicknesses were used to create different levels of depth to the crate.  Each piece was custom cut and put into place. It usually worked out that I glued one side of the crate and left it to dry for 24 hours to allow it to fully cure.

Once everything was glued and put together, it was time for paint! I headed over to my local paint supplier, gave them a paint code and got to work painting. The paint is an enamel, exterior paint that is fast drying and most importantly, weatherproof. I did the first pieces by hand using a brush and roller but later remembered that I invested in a spray gun for this very reason. So I finished off the interior and exterior panels using the spray gun which saved a lot of time as well as my wrists.

After the paint was dry, I added some light battle damage by using black acrylic paint, water, silver paint and of course, authentic dirt! The finale was to add a black nylon straps with parachute clips and a fitting blue tarp over the top.

Success! After it was all done, the crate was picked up and the next time I would see it would be at Toronto Fan Expo at the Xbox One/ PUBG booth. It was a great hit  with the con-goers. It was easy to get a cool photo with the themed back drop and other PUBG assets I created!

Final step is to do a cool photo shoot! Check out some of the photos below.
