Dead Rising 4 Baseball Bat

This was an extremely fun project to do. I was commissioned through Microsoft to create baseball bat weapon props from the upcoming Xbox One and Windows 10 game Dead Rising 4.  I made 3 in total and started with making one for X16 - An Xbox event in Toronto. The baseball bat was used in promotions for the game from media and was displayed beside the game demo while people played!

I later got asked to make 2 more as they were a huge hit with the original owners!

Build Process

I used a large assortment of materials to create these pieces. The baseball bat was a real wooden bat and consisted of 200 Rainbow colored LED's which were connected to a portable battery back that fit into the inside of the bat and was accessible through the top. Professional athletic grip tape was used on the handle and painted with weathering techniques. The barbed wire was thin leather stripping, tied in knots, cut on an angle to add a "sharp" look, painted metallic silver and spray glued into place.

The stand was made using knotty pine from a local hardware store and cut into shape. I used marketing assets to create the "Dead Rising 4" logo which was printed on photo paper and clear coated.  To add realism, I added professional fake blood to the stand and went to town! Adding battle damage and blood effects are always the most fun to do!

I finished the piece by spray painting the Tri-Forged Studios logo at the bottom of the base, attaching a business card and creating instructions on how to operate and maintain the bat.
